Me vs The Music

When I was  9 years old, I started to go to guitar classes in the school. I was really, really bad playing it, so a few weeks later I left the class. The next  year, I had to go to a different school and music class was obligatory, so I had to resume my guitar learning.

In some way I felt that I played better than  the year before, and the teacher made me love music. Then with a lot of practice I started to play guitar pretty well, even I  buy a new electric guitar and started a band with some friends.

Learning to play the guitar thought to me that without practice and constancy you can't improve your skills in something. As a life lesson I learned to be patient and practice a lot in something you really like, because no one borns doing everything perfect (well, maybe some people does, like the 0,00001%), even if they are, you must practice and keep  your head up on what you do, if you really like to do it.

At present, I don't play too much the guitar, almost nothing, because of time and my studys, but this is something you never forget how to do it, like swimming or riding a bike, maybe you can forget how to play a song, but with practice you can remind.

My favorite subject

As an architecture student I should enjoy Workshop, and of course I do.

Workshop is the subject where the teacher give you an architecture related commission and every class you work on the classroom and the teacher check your progress on the project, well, there are more than one teacher, they usually works on different  fields like plastic arts,  graphic expression, graphic typesetting, urbanism and obviously architecture.

This semester we've been working mainly on how we perceive space and the relations between the elements of a place. Also we've worked on the study of planimetry draws and graphics representation. The most important part of Workshop is to draw, sketch and build models on different materials. Something very important too that I've learned on Workshop is to team working, in the future as an architecture you don't work alone, you must work with other professionals of other areas.

So, I really love this class because if I don't, I couldn't keep studying architecture, this is the only subject where you face off architecture as it is, in this class you must apply what you've learned in the rest of subjects like, mathematics, physics, geometry and composition.

Someone I Admire

As an architecture student, I should admire someone inmersed in this field. I admire a lot of people, but this man's field has a great impact on 20th century art development specially on comics and sciece-fiction. This man is Jean Giraud acclaim mostly under the pseudonym of Moebius. He is a very importan person to me because of his drawing style, and his influence on graphics expressions, something very important on architecture and design.

Born as  Jean Henri Gaston Giraud in Nogent-sur-Marne, Val-de-Marne, in the suburbs of Paris, on 8 May 1938, after his parents got divorced he moved to his grandmother's house, there he started to read comic books and as school student he writes and draw they first sketches.

He reach famous as a drawer on Blueberry's comic series, he also colaborated with chilean filmaker Alejandro Jodorsky on his graphic novel The Incal. Moebius colaborate as Cinematographic Drawer in very important sci-fi films like Alien, Tron, Willow and The Fifth Element, some of his designs were used also on ships and droids of Star Wars.

He was a great artist, and a very quick drawer and sketcher, in his drawing style, he started to be more synthetic and naturalistic.
Giraud died in Paris, on 10 March 2012, aged 73, after a long battle with cancer.

Something about the truth

"Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth"
 - Henry Thoreau

After saying if I choose the truth or feeling good, I thought first what does it mean the word "Truth".

What is the truth? When we call something truth? Truth is most ofend used to mean being in accord with fact or reality, may also  often be used to refer the idea of authenticity. I could keep telling doubts abouts what is real, what is not, who is authentic, who's not and so on. In simple words to me the truth does not exist, it's an ilussion in our consciousness to make things comprehensible and this reality have sense.

We usually call truth a limited perspective of facts, truth it's subjective is not  absolute. People hear what they want to hear, sometimes the facts can hurt but this is underling to people's aptitude to open their minds to all posibilities.
In my opinion, I prefer to people tell always the truth (if it really exists), everything you do or say will hurt somone in anyway, but people must learn to get the good things of facts and keep moving on to grow up and live better

Living of arts and crafts

Architecture is my kind of dream job (or nightmare sometimes) so if something would happened and I can't continue with my studies probably I will try to start living from sculpting. In my first entry I told you that I’ve been always good with crafts and working with my hands, since I was a child I used to play with clay and plastiline and this remains on time, currently I do sculpture as a hobby, in my bedroom I have my clays, tools and materials to work.

Sculpting is a practical work but I only need a desk and also I can do it in the outside, so is up to you if you want to do it in an office or in your workshop in your house, perhaps in an industrial job I will have to sculpt designs for toys in an office. Maybe I won't travel too much because I will be working on some Project, but if I go somewhere it will be for conventions or exhibitions, this give me the opportunity to know people from other cities or countries, know another artists and interesting people to work with.

To sculpt you don’t need formal studies, I only have my hands and motivation, but there are schools of arts and crafts where you can improve your techniques or learn more about art, so obviously studying architecture has helped me to improve on my work. I think that sculpting is the only thing that I can’t get bored about it and I can do whatever I want.

Future Special Profession

As I previously said, Im currently studying architecture at Universidad de Chile. In this entry I will tell you why this professon is special to me.

A few years ago I was not really sure about what to do with my life and being an architect wasn't in my mind, in highschool I wanted to be veterinarian, but almost in the end of the last year I realized that architecture is for me because I couldn't imagine me studying or doing anything else.
I like it because it has a bit of everything, a mix of maths, physics, draw, art, phylosophy and history, also i've been always good with arts and crafts, since as a child (I like to sculpt and build things).
This is my third year in university and I've met a lot of amazing people and made good friends.

Being an architect gives you the chance to meet diferent people from other countrys, disciplines and cultures. I think and I believe that architects have the mission to build, design and make a better world for people. On the other hand you must expend a lot, A LOT of time designing and drawing, you will barely but everything will worth.

The Greatest Festival

I have been to a lot of concerts in my life, from big festivals to small concerts of unknown bands in my town. Last year, on September 27, I went to Santiago Gets Louder festival one of the most exciting experience in my life. The festival  brought together most of the national and internationl iconic Heavy metal and Alternative metal bands like Gojira, Lamb of God, Deftones, System of a Down and Faith No More. The event was on hangares Suricato in the Cerrillos ex-airport.

The festival have an asistance of 40.000 people and more than 14 hours of live music.

I didn't know too much about all of the bands at concert, personally I really wanted to see Deftones and System of a Down on stage.

System of a Down is an Armenian-American alternative metal. The band's currently members are Serj Tarkian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan. They came to America after a civil war in their country and this influence their topics on lyrics. Theirs style is often oblique anda dadaist, and their music have a lot of critic to society, politics, drugs and sexual intercourse.

Deftones its also an alternative metal band from USA that consist of Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Frank Delgado, Abe Cunningham and Sergio Vega. Deftones has a very unique style, sometimes their songs can be rude and agressive, and sometimes soft and slow with a very dark atmosphere.

On stage, that day Deftones was kind of lazy, their show was too short and they only played the slow songs in a speed and energic context of music, maybe that show was a "pause" to relax and take a breath in that place. On the other hand System of a Down gave everything they had on the stage, a great performance, great music, everybody was so excited and they could share all of his energy.
}
I didn't go alone to the festival, I went with one of my best friends, but at the moment that we enter to the enclosure there was so many people that we lost each other and we couldn't find each other until the end of the day :(
